科学家宣称与人乳拥有相同的属性的牛奶可能会被澳大利亚人使用。
中国科学家通过基因改造奶牛的性状，使其生产出的牛奶含有的蛋白可以抵抗感染菌。
CSIRO（澳大利亚联邦科学与工业研究组织）的研究中心的科学家Ross Tellam，告诉记者，这种牛奶可以为那些不能以母乳喂养或者选择不以母乳喂养新生儿的母亲的提供一个替代品。
他说，“这种牛奶投放到澳大利亚市场上只是时间问题。如果这种牛奶被证明是安全有益的，我觉得，澳大利亚的乳品行业没有理由不考虑使用。”
但是，基因伦理专家，Bob Phelps则表示，“澳大利亚乳品行业应该完全避开这种技术。我们应该保持自然系统的正常性，母亲喂养自己的婴儿是天经地义的。我认为提议出利用基因操控奶牛的性状，使其生产出“类人乳的”牛奶，将其作为母亲喂养自己的婴儿的一个替代品本来就是一个错误的方向。”

Scientists say cow milk that has the same properties as human breast milk could soon be available to Australian consumers.
Chinese scientists have genetically modified cattle to produce milk containing a protein that protects against infectious bacteria.
CSIRO research scientist, Ross Tellam, says it has the potential to serve as an alternative for mothers who cannot or choose not to breastfeed their newborns.
He says it is only a matter of time before it is marketed to Australians.
"If it was proven to be safe and beneficial; I think there's no reason why the Australian dairy industry couldn't consider this," he said.
"But in a very niche market, you'd have to separate this milk from the mainstream milk supply."
However, Gene Ethics Network director, Bob Phelps, says the Australian dairy industry should avoid the technology altogether.
"Here's a natural system that we should keep in place and that's mothers feeding their infants," he said.
"It can't be bettered as far as I'm concerned, and I think proposing gene-manipulated cows to be an alternative to mothers feeding their own infants is just heading off in the wrong direction."
